Pinsuti is a group of about 20 singers, formed in 1995. We perform 4 - 5 concerts each year in the Wharfedale - Airedale area

We take our name from the little-known Victorian composer Ciro Pinsuti. Sacred and secular unaccompanied music (Tallis, Rachmaninov, Bruckner, Purcell, Byrd, Grieg, Debussy, Victoria, Monteverdi, Palestrina) forms the core of our performances, which are individually tailored to each venue and audience.

SCHEDULE
St Michael the Archangel, Kirby Malham, BD23 4BS, 17th March 2012, 7:30pm

The programme includes Morten Lauriden's beautiful O Nata Lux, Allegri's Miserere and Byrd's Mass for 4 voices.

We hope you will take time to join us.

Tickets are £10 including refreshments, £8 in advance and concessions.

The members of the choir lead varied lives when we are not singing.

We come originally from many parts of the UK including parts of England, Ireland and Wales. These days we live in and around Ilkley, travelling from, amongst other places Gargrave and Leeds.

Some of us have proper musical qualifications whilst others have none at all!

We vary in age; some of us currently work in such fields as education, medicine, various business and scientific professions and music, whilst others are retired, but equally busy.

Some facts about us:first adult experience of choral singing in Addis Ababa; learnt to play the recorder with hands the wrong way round; planted 1000 trees in 2010; Esperanto speaker; ex-glider pilot; sang to the Secretary General of the U.N. at 26,000 feet above the Atlantic.

SAMPLES

Despite this variety we enjoy singing together and hope our audiences will equally enjoy our choice of music, some of which is not so frequently heard.

We meet each Wednesday at St Margaret's Church, Ilkley, at 8pm. Join us and add to our mix if you like singing. We currently have vacancies for tenors. Come along to 2 or 3 rehearsals to see if you enjoy singing with us, and then we'll ask you to take an informal audition with a small number of other singers.

Would you like to be kept informed about future Pinsuti concerts, events and other news? If so, contact us to be added to our new emailing list. We promise you will not be bombarded with emails!

Press

An article about a composition by Pinsuti's conductor, Michael Howell, and its performance by The Settle Orchestra, The Holy Trinity (Skipton) Church and Pinsuti, has appeared in The Yorkshire Times here.

Musical Director

Michael Howell became Pinsuti's Musical Director in April 2009.

Michael started his musical training as a chorister at Westminster Abbey, after which he won a music scholarship to Cranleigh School, Surrey, studying piano, oboe, harpsichord and organ.

He was then appointed organ scholar at Exeter College, Oxford and has subsequently held teaching positions in Dorset, Staffordshire and Berkshire.

He moved to Yorkshire in 2008 and is currently Organist and Director of Music at Holy Trinity, Skipton, a position which allows him time to pursue his other musical interests of conducting, accompanying and composing.
